Video Game Reviews of Guitar Hero World TourCustomer Review: i should NOT have bought this game.... Summary: 2 StarsTo start with, i was a huge fan of Guitar Hero III; my skill level is such that i do well on medium level, but struggle when it comes to the hard level. I bought this game, just for the guitar hero component... not the rock band stuff or music creator, or any of that, so i can't really judge any of that. i also am basing this on playability/fun-ness, as i don't really get so geeked out about graphics and such, so here's what i liked/didn't like:
1. i've only played on medium thus far, and i'm BORED OUT OF MY MIND!!!! the songs are long, boring, and seem to be all quarter notes. and i've done quite a few sets (8 or 9) on here. i keep thinking things will get harder... they have't (yet). it seemed that on GHIII, there were some more interesting riffs even on medium earlier on in the game.
2. (and i should have heeded other's warning on this one, but i didn't think it would be a big deal-- it IS). you have to finish a total set before you can SAVE the game. this totally SUCKS!!!! especially when some songs are 7-8 minutes long, and there may be 5 songs in a set-- OR if you want to just play a few minutes for a break from work or something.
3. the audio is BAD. i have my volume cranked (relative to GHIII) and still can barely hear the vocals and lead guitar (i even set it so no background or anything else to get in the way of those sounds). some songs are worse than others, but so far ALL have been bad.
4. i wasn't familiar with many of the songs on the list, and i'm not finding many that i want to listen to ever again. on GHIII, while i didn't know a lot of the songs, the audio and riffs and playability was so much better that i still wanted to go back to the songs. i'm hoping i pass every song on the first try now (so far it's been simple-- 97+% on nearly EVERY SONG)
hopefully this helps those of you who are looking for just another pure guitar hero game and are not an expert "guitarist".
Customer Review: Bring secondary entertainment Summary: 3 StarsThe gameplay is great, when you finally get to it. But the time waiting for each song to load pretty much kills the party.
With World Tour, they get bored between songs and often decide to do something else, like play Guitar Hero 2.
Customer Review: WARNING: Created for widescreen, 4:3 TVs show distorted vertically Summary: 3 StarsAfter noticing on my standard analog TV tha only does 4:3 aspect ratio, that everything looked stretched vertically, I inquired of BudCat - the game developer why this was. They responded that this game was designed only for 16:9 aspect ratio, and the distortion on 4:3 TVs is in fact not a problem.
This game was designed in 16:9 and has no option to change it to 4:3. Unlike previous GH games, where you had a setting in the video settings sectio to change it, this is NOT the case with this game and thus - if you are playing this on an older "square-ish" TV you will see everything stretched somewhat thin in the vertical.
This is incredibly disappointing to me and I would think to many PS2 owners, who are more likely to have their PS2s hooked up to older TVs.
Just a WARNING - if you have an older TV, the video is distorted. Yes, the game is still playable just fine, but it is NOT optimal for older TVs.
I would have even taken a letterbox mode. But, BudCat has chosen to deny PS2 owners with older TVs a finely made video game.
Customer Review: Good songs, great customization, but only one band per memory card. Summary: 3 StarsI was a little disappointed when I got this game. There are some good songs, and there are many, but not all are that great.
However, the character customization is amazing! I was able to make a character that looks just like myself, along with many others.
But unfortunately, which I found out after purchase, for the PS2 you can only make 1 band per memory card. I wanted to have my own file, & make a seperate band so my sister & I could win the songs together, but found out you can't.
You need to have a memory card for each band.. which kinda stinks.
Customer Review: Guitar Hero World Tour Summary: 5 StarsI have the first guitar hero disc and this one gives better songs and now more variety to choose from. Love this!
