Video Game Reviews of Steambot ChroniclesCustomer Review: One of my all-time favorites! Summary: 5 StarsI used to be a hard-core gamer, back in the glory days of the Atari, then NES and SNES. Nowadays it's amazing if a game can hold my attention for more than a couple hours. But Steambot Chronicles, that's something else entirely. This is the first game I've actually played all the way through to the finish in many, many years. And not only that, but now that I've finished it I'm playing it again to choose a different path...
It's sort of like an RPG, but not. Actually, it's more like my idea of what an RPG should be like - free-roaming (but with a plot), upgrades, townspeople, all that jazz, but without worrying about constant leveling up, absurdly complicated dungeon puzzles or annoyingly frequent random battles that can grind a true RPG to a halt or make you throw your controller across the room in frustration.
There's also a great variety to the choices you can make this game - good or evil, play in a band, shoot pool, battling Trots(mechs), just playing music on a streetcorner, carrying people around like a taxi, hauling supplies for vendors... this game is often advertised as a "relaxing non-linear adventure", and that's EXACTLY what it is.
I won't delve anymore into the gameplay or mechanics, as the description and other reviews have covered that, but let's just say that if you have an urge to kick back, rock out on a harmonica and then battle giant robots in an arena, then this is your game. And man do I love it!
Description of Steambot ChroniclesSteambot Chronicles is unique open-ended gameplay and a more polished role-playing experience. Vanilla Beans wakes up to find himself lying on a sun-drenched beach. How did he get there-- and who in the world is the girl standing above him? The girl introduces herself as Connie, and Vanilla begins the first busy day of a grand adventure. He'll take Connie home, meet the other members of her band (the Garland Globetrotters), and explore the town of Nefroburg. When a gang of bandits begins overrunning the town, you have a chance to be a hero -- or not. What happens after today is completely up to you. Fight a multitude of enemies and gigantic boss mechs against overwhelming odds
