Video Game Reviews of Resident Evil: Code Veronica XCustomer Review: Old school RE, refined Summary: 4 StarsResident Evil: Code Veronica was originally released on the Sega Dreamcast. It had been in development alongside Resident Evil 3, but Code Veronica featured completely 3D backgrounds and an original story. The game follows Claire Redfield as she is imprisoned by Umbrella in an unknown island. Things quickly go to hell when there is a T-Virus outbreak.
Code Veronica X is the Playstation 2 port with added features and 10 minutes of extra cutscenes. The graphics are nice and solid and the music is pretty good at setting the mood. There are a lot of minor improvements to the series, such as the quick turn around, better item placement and story progression. The game is longer than previous Resident Evils, and I read somewhere that the game area is bigger than both Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 combined.
This game is way better than Resident Evil 3. Returning characters Claire, Chris, and Wesker make this game feel familiar, and the added enemies and villains are good additions. One of the few weaknesses is the character Steve, a corny 2-Dimensional character that tries to be OTFABS. Well, at least he makes for a good story element later in the game. The atmosphere is darker, closer to the original game than the cartoony RE3. Still, I wish the graphics were moodier because they're not nearly as gritty as Silent Hill.
There are a couple of parts in Code Veronica that will test your skills and you might actually get stuck. I've seen people get stuck at the airplane section with the Tyrant, getting thoroughly owned with limited ammo. I played through the game with my bro last year and we did pretty good until we reached the final boss. We had no ammo so we had to knife the crap out of it. It was a losing battle, but with perserverance and several shots of tequila we weakened the trik and took her out. Haha I still remember that, what an accomplishment. That has to be one of my best gaming moments. Code Veronica is not classic like RE2 but it does have it's moments that still make it worth playing.
Description of Resident Evil: Code Veronica XA port of the Dreamcast hit, the PlayStation2 version of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X offers the same fantastic survival-horror adventure with some improvements in the graphics department. This update also includes some nifty bonuses: 10 minutes of additional cutscenes and a demo of Devil May Cry. Taking place after Resident Evil 2, the game puts players in control of Claire Redfield as she continues to search for her brother and investigates the ominous Umbrella Corporation. Players also occasionally play as a partner character during the hours of puzzle solving and zombie killing. Parents should take note that this is an M-rated title filled with blood, gore, and violence. Though the game's outstanding graphics are even better than in the Dreamcast version, the camera is still annoying. The jerky and awkward controls--a problem throughout the series--add to the player's frustration. Despite these problems, this is still one of the best of all survival-horror games, and a fine specimen of interactive storytelling. But veterans of the series will find nothing new and will be irritated by the same old problems. This game is best for players with limited or no experience with the series. --Raymond M. Padilla Pros: - Awesome cutscenes
- Compelling story
- Devil May Cry demo
Cons: - Awful control scheme
- Troublesome camera
- Tedious puzzles

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X comes with a bonus playable demo ofDevil May Cry. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X begins as Claire Redfield leaves Raccoon City for the European headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation to search for her brother Chris and solve the mystery surrounding Umbrella Corporation's dreaded biotoxins. She is captured during her investigation and sent to a prison on a desolate island. In Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, players control Claire at the beginning of the game, and later assume the role of Chris Redfield in their efforts to halt Umbrella's devious plans. One of the many features that make Code Veronica X different from previous Resident Evil games is the Real World System (RWS). Now when Claire affects changes to her environment (opening doors, solving puzzles, storing items), those changes remain while you play the second half of the game as Chris. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X contains never-before-seen footage that focuses on battles between Chris and the enigmatic Wesker, and sheds new insight into the ominous Resident Evil story line. To her horror, Claire discovers Umbrella Corporation's insidious activities are not isolated to the remote Midwestern city. Flesh-eating zombies, horrific beasts, and even stranger mutations have spread on a global scale. Just how far does this twisted conspiracy extend? Nope.
