This product works right out of the package with NO modification required to your Rock Band 1 drum set. The process of taking off the plastic rims to mount them is not required. Yes, the silencers are larger than your standard drum pad, however, the purpose of this is to cover the hard plastic rims for those slightly over zealous drummers that may miss the pad (resulting in a loud click).
I was able to peel the adhesive off and stick right onto the pads with no issues. I drum at the expert level and have not experienced any degradation in registering of hits (provided you strike at or around the center of the pad).
In summary, great product, significantly reduces sound with no modificaiton required. Recommended for all rock band 1 drum kit owners to reduce noise.

I installed these like many reviews mentioned - removing the rims so that they fit well. The drums didn't really pick up much after the "silencers" were on. I ended up taking them off shortly after, maybe I'll get a RB2 set someday - they seem much better than the 1st sets.Customer Review: rock band drum silencers = ehhhh

These drum silencers definitely decreased the noise output from my drumming. They were fairly easy to apply (just had to take the plastic rings off from around the heads 1st). My issue, like a lot of others, was that it caused a lot of hits to not register. At the expert level, precision is not something that can be sacrificed just so you keep your neighbors happier. I feel that at the easy, medium, and maybe hard levels, the silencers may not hurt you as often. But if you are at expert, do not buy.Customer Review: If you buy rockhand drums of any kind, buy these!

These pads make the new and old drums much quieter than normally would be, they provide a little kick too which helps with the feel of the drums themselves. The pads do not reduslce virtually any sensitivity of the pads whatsoever. One of the main reasons that I bought these pads were to save the drums themselves from being pounded over and over again. My friends drums, the rb 2 ones, had been played so much that the red pad had bubbled up at first, lost most of it's sensitivity and then stopped working comletely within the first 5 months of use. I have had mine for 3 and with these pads they are still in perfect condition, even with giving them a constant workout. Customer Review: Un objeto pr?ctico / An practical object
