Customer Review: Great concept, but a bit flavorless.
Summary: 4 Stars
Allow me to begin by saying that of all the horse-related video games out there, this is one of the best. It is based on English-style riding and competing: events include jumping, dressage, and cross-country. The game is only one-player, which is unfortunate because it would drastically improve the fun-factor to be able to race against or compete with your friends. The game is more strategy-based than hands-on excitement. In the jumping events, you simply guide your horse to the jumps and he does all the work. In the cross-country event, you have a bit more control. You control the horse's speed and direct him to the jumps (though he still automatically jumps without input from you) and how tired he gets and his trust in you are controlled by your handling. Dressage is done cleverly (but its a bit too easy, if you ask me). It's a concept similar to Guitar Hero, in which the controller buttons scroll across the screen and you have to hit the correct buttons at the right time (with the music) and your horse obeys according to your accuracy. Though the game is somewhat entertaining and mildly challenging, it gets a bit dry and boring after the first few competing events. It will appeal to those who enjoy playing SIMS and similar games that involve lots of time spent on creating and building up a character. For the folks who need fast-moving, intense excitement in their games, you may want to pass on this one. All in all, it's not one of those games that you can't tear yourself away from, but it is one of the few horse games that allow you to actually interact with and control your horse.
