Video Game Reviews of Final Fantasy XCustomer Review: Best FF since 7 Summary: 5 StarsThis is a bit of a belated review because I played this game several years ago, but the game still sticks in my memory after all these years. That is a testament to how good this game really is. There are few games out there as good as this game is. One of the rare gems. I love games with story and this game has it in spades. Best FF since 7 to this day (don't get me wrong 8 and 12 were good, but not great like 7 and 10 were).
Customer Review: One of Square Enix's Finest Hours Summary: 5 StarsFinal Fantasy X was the first game I had played on the Playstation 2. Before that, I was a guy who played mostly shooters on the Xbox. My only real experience with an RPG was Morrowind (which is a great game, but it is an action RPG, not a "classic" RPG). In fact, Final Fantasy X was the main reason I switched my favorite game genre from FPSs to RPGs.
My favorite parts of games are the story, the characters, and the locations you travel to in the game. Final Fantasy X excels in all of these. Sure, the gameplay is usually not as exciting as an action game (I mean "usually" because some of the tougher battles are very tense), but no one really plays an RPG for the "gameplay." They play it to experience the story.
This game has an incredible cast of characters. Believe me, I didn't like Tidus (the main character) very much at first, but once Auron joins the party in Luca, Tidus ends up maturing quickly. Yuna, a summoner, was my favorite character in any game, movie, or book (until I met Ashe when Final Fantasy XII came out). Wakka is a funny guy who lets Lulu, a sorceror he likes, bully him around. Auron is the main leader of the party (technically, they all follow the orders of Yuna, but Yuna usually goes along with whatever Auron has to say), and he is an exceptionally powerful warrior. Kimahri doesn't talk much, but he is devoted to protecting Yuna. And Rikku, the last playable character to join your party, has the ability to turn even the most dangerous and dramatic moments in the game to moments of humor.
Each character has their own abilities and overdrive techniques. For example, out of the seven playable characters, only Tidus, Wakka, and Rikku are able to fight in the water, meaning that for certain sections of the story you will only have them in your party. Rikku has the overdrive ability to mix different items in your inventory to provide different effects: sometimes helpful to you, sometimes harmful to your enemy, and sometimes, both. Many of the characters also have different levels of overdrive as well, and some are better than others for different circumstances. For example, Wakka has 4 different overdrives. His second one allows you to possibly hit the enemy multiple times. This has the benefit of skirting past the damage limit of 99,999. Each hit can only do up to 99,999 damage, but multiple hits of 99,999 each can really help bring down some of the optional bosses later in the game.
This game is long (like all good RPGs) but not that long (you can do pretty much everything in the game in less than 120 hours. The first time I beat the game, I completed everything in the game except for a little minigame in which you have to dodge 200 bolts of lightning in a row (it is pretty much impossible without a huge amount of luck) and it took me about 160 hours (although probably about 40 hours of that was playing blitzball).
Overall, this game is fantastic. It was my favorite game of all until Final Fantasy XII came out. While most everything is better in Final Fantasy XII, there is one thing in which Final Fantasy X still triumphs over any other RPG: its summoning system. The story and much of the gameplay revolves around summoning, so they obviously made this part of the game very, very well. Even though I now have a PS3 and an Xbox 360, I still have my PS2 and Final Fantasy X, and I plan on beating it for a third time. Even if you aren't a fan of older games, if you love RPGs, and you haven't played Final Fantasy X, you need to before all the spare copies of the game are bought up.
Customer Review: epic fail Summary: 2 Starsthis game gets boring as you go, the story is rather bland, and whoever came up with the ending needs to be slapped. it sucked! you'll want to put your PS2 through a wall when this game is over. buy 'Star Ocean: til the end of time' instead. it is waaaaaaaaay better.
but if you are still interested...
the premise is the same as every other final fantasy game. there is a good guy. a bad guy. a guy that turns out to be the real baddest bad guy and a chick. add in a quest, random battles, optional megaultrasuper bosses, characters that join with bad attitudes and reaaaaaaaaaalllllllllly big weapons. don't get me wrong, square enix pumps out some good RPG's, but this one just sucked.
Customer Review: Best and Worst Parts of an Excellent Game. Summary: 5 StarsI know this game is old news by now and there are over 1,000 reviews, so I will be brief.
My favorite part of this game (in the context of the entire genre) is the rotation system that you could use in battles. In battle you always have three characters but you can swap any of them out on any turn for other characters in your party. I thought the game executed this feature perfectly.
My least favorite part of the game was without a doubt Blitzball. Basically, it is a ludicrous sport in itself (some kind of water polo) and if that weren't bad enough it was based on a combination of analog motion in a tiny mini-map and discrete actions based on stats. I just think the mechanics did not suit the game.
Also, I thought I would hate the Grid System for learning Skills at first, but give it a chance, it's not so bad really. Still, losing stuff you've gotten because you erased things off of the grid is lame. If you lose it, then why even have the option to erase? I found that misleading and basically stopped caring about maxing my characters at that point (this was toward the very end of the game anyway).
Customer Review: Great product, extremely fast shipping. Summary: 5 StarsI buy a lot of stuff online, and never have I experienced this quick of a purchase/shipping turnover. Shipper didn't even have time to notify me it was on the way...I went home and it was in my Mailbox!
